“Perfect Day Start” is sort of a Frankenstein-ish mix between an herbal tea and a mint-green tea. The two primary ingredients are the herbals, chrysanthemum and chamomile, but then a healthy dose of gunpowder green tea is thrown in, along with peppermint and spearmint. The result is a very nicely balanced drink. This is definitely an herbal tea first and foremost, as the flowery and slightly bitter notes of the chrysanthemum and chamomile take center stage on the tongue. But there’s also a pleasingly strong gunpowder base that never quite matches the intensity of the herbals, but still provides an extra layer of depth and complexity. The mints are well-blended, so the bite of the peppermint and the cooling softness of the spearmint are both apparent in the after taste.
Altogether I liked it, though the name might be a bit misleading. If you’re looking for an herbal/mint tea with an energy boost to get you going on a workday morning, I’m not sure this is the one. At least for me, it was more a soothing and relaxing tea than it was a get-up-and-go kind of experience. But I suppose the addition of the gunpowder green tea does give it more of a caffeine kick than an ordinary mint-herbal would have.
