With so many different Jasmine teas, I certainly have noticed a difference in high-quality rolled greens. The aroma wafted gently from my Gaiwan with the first infusion. For this steep, I boiled the water and let it cool to 160F. When I poured in the water, the rolled green tea pearls blossomed before my eyes.
As the leaves spread out in all directions, I took my first sip and it was good but a little too weak: this tea requires a longer steep. After a good seven minutes the tea now looks just like larger leaf teas (expanded from the rolled appearance) and the gentle flavor has arrived. I’ve had many jasmine greens before but this particular variety has a pleasant leafy finish when steeped for over five minutes.
The flavor embodies the gentle nature of the expanding leaf. The tea leafy yet mild aroma accents the smooth finish. These rolled high quality leaves continue to delve out their flavor after repeated infusions.
As the temperature dropped and the steeping time increase the subtlety of the dragon pearl increased. I dropped the temperature to 140F and the flavor was quite full and even. It had fuller flavor with hints of jasmine accented even further. The aroma also yields a smell fresh and vibrant, like picked tea.
This jasmine green flavor stands out for its complexity and fullness. The lower temperature steeps offered a lasting flavor with a gentle yet lasting green tea finish, the signature of a good cup of green tea. This is certainly my personal favorite for green teas and I’m off to infuse these wonderful leaves again.
