Not Great"An earthy, almost dirt-like base, with a sour, unpleasant flavor. Not recommended."

rot-spring-cherry.jpgWell, I can’t post only good reviews, so here is my first review of a tea from Republic of Tea (RoT). Fellow reviewer Lea shops RoT and notes they are either really good or really bad. This is one of the bad ones. Smelling the leaves was not the usual experience. It smelled sour. Like sour milk. And it was strong. I was concerned, but the aroma of the leaves often does not match the aroma or the taste of the brewed tea. The aroma of the brewed tea was the same: sour. On to the taste.

At first it has an earthy taste…very earthy, almost dirt-like. A full drink reminds me of a slightly sour, basic oolong. There is a dried-out aftertaste on the front of the tongue. Notice that I never mentioned the cherry taste. I am still waiting for it. Nor would I describe anything about this tea as ‘Spring’ – like. I have tried a few new green teas lately – primarily from Mighty Leaf – which have a very spring, clean, and refreshing taste. This tea is nothing like that. I would not recommend it to anyone and it has given me a bad impression of RoT. I guess I should get Lea’s list before getting any more.
