Instead of a normal review I thought I’d make a post today about Mighty Leaf’s coupon program, which is one of the more generous online offers I’ve seen in the tea industry. For those who aren’t familiar with Mighty Leaf, they offer a wide array of loose and “artisanally-bagged” teas on their web site at www.mightyleaf.com. Many of their teas have been nationally recognized, including their line of Chocolate Truffle teas which were named one of Food & Wine magazine’s Top 100 “Tastes You Must Try” for 2007.
Anyway, Mighty Leaf offers two incentive programs - the MLT Rewards program, and the Friends & Family program. Both are simple to sign up for.
The MLT Rewards program is a fairly standard rewards program - you earn a $10 coupon for every $100 you spend. For most people, this probably won’t amount to much as I know its rare for me to spend $100 at any given tea retailer. BUT, read on. You *also* get a free $10 coupon just for signing up. So just enter your name and your email address at:
http://www.mightyleaf.com/rewards/rewards-program-signup-general.aspx
… and you’ll get a $10 coupon straight away! That’s a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.
But it gets better. Mighty Leaf’s $10 coupons are stackable - you can use up to five (I believe) on any given order. So with that in mind, let’s move to their Friends & Family program.
The Friends & Family program is very similar, except that you have to sign-up someone else into the program along with you. You provide just your name and email address (be sure to use the same email address you used to sign up for the MLT Rewards program) and your friend’s name and email address, and that’s it. (Well, no, you also have to click the confirmation email that will come a few minutes later in order to “activate” it). You won’t get anything straight away, but your friend will get a $10 coupon. Once they use it on a purchase, then you’ll get a $10 coupon to use on a future purchase.
You can sign up for the Friends & Family program at:
http://www.mightyleaf.com/referrals/friends-program-general-signup.aspx
So in essence, you’ve got a clear path to $20 of free tea from Mighty Leaf. Just find a tea-loving friend, have them sign you up as a friend in their Friends & Family program, and you’ll get your first $10. Then sign up yourself in the Rewards program, and you’ll get a second $10. Both coupons will be emailed to you right away, and you’ll be able to use them on any tea items in the store (its not valid for teaware or gift certificates however).
If you want to get the full trifecta of savings, order $75 or more in tea and you’ll get free shipping (a savings of $6.95). Put them all together, and you’ve essentially got a $26.95 coupon off a $75 purchase, or a savings of 36%! That’s pretty darned good!
Note: If you don’t have a friend or family member who wants to sign you up in the Mighty Leaf program, just leave a comment to this post (and be sure to include your email address - it won’t be publicly viewable) and I’ll sign you up on our Teaviews account so you can get your first $10 coupon.
