According to their website (www.specialteas.com), this tea contains marigold flowers, apple bits, rose hip peels, sunflower petals, blackberry leaves, elderberries, and anise. Before being brewed the leaves have a somewhat citrus-y scent to them with a light white tea undertone. The tea really does not look all that special just looking at the dry leaves. But once they are steeped, there are some interesting looking little bits of stuff floating around. I must say that it looks pretty when they all unfurl.
I used one heaping teaspoon of the mix to exactly one cup of boiling water and let steep for exactly ten minutes. The tea has a very nice golden color to it that gets progressively deeper, ending at a soft yellow-gold color.
The tea has a light citrus/licorice smell to it. It is not a very strong scent but it is nice. The taste is a little too light for me, I think it tastes a little watery. It has a licorice like aftertaste as well. It is somewhat sweet and very good. I am not a big fan of citrus smelling/tasting teas, but this one is nicely mixed! The manufacturer chose just the right mix of ingredients, but for me the tea was just a little too light. I tried steeping it again for 13 minutes and used a teaspoon and a half (3 minutes longer and half a teaspoon more than directed) and the scent was stronger but the tea still tasted watery. Although a nice taste, it is a diluted tasting tea to me. I also did not notice any “energizing” properties from drinking two cups of it.
