Thumbs up!"Floral on the tongue, with nicely-balanced cherry flavor in the aftertaste... one of the few cherry-flavored teas that doesn't come off tasting completely artificial."

teatable-green-japan-cherry.jpgThis is by far one of the most aromatic teas I’ve ever jammed my schnoz into. That first whiff was packed full of wild cherry aroma, so strong as to almost be medicinal, like cough syrup, but not quite. I followed the suggested brew time at first - the label said 1 minute in near-boiling water - but I wasn’t terribly pleased with the result, so I gave it another 30-45 seconds to steep.

The result was quite nice. The tea itself is a very delicate sencha, providing a neutral base for the cherry flavor, which is the primary mover and shaker here. There are what appear to be cherry blossoms in the tea, but surely the flavor here must come from some other, more concentrated source. (Unfortunately, The Tea Table doesn’t publish full ingredients for many of its blends, so its anyone’s guess). The cherry flavor isn’t nearly as intense as it is in the aroma of the raw tea leaves - in the actual drink itself its nicely balanced; floral on the tongue and then fruity/sweet/tangy in the aftertaste.

Cherry flavored anything is really hard to pull off, if only because its all-too-easy to compare it either, even unintentionally, to faux-cherry-flavored candy or to cough syrup. Although the aroma of the raw tea did bring those to mind, the actual brew itself was much more authentic tasting.

Anyone with a penchant for cherry-flavored teas would likely find this to be a keeper.
