"An unusual smoky aroma, with a hint of nuttiness... I enjoyed it, certainly something different."

This tea looks like tobacco but slightly darker. It is a dirt brown color with a tinge of green mixed in the leaves. It has a nutty smell with a soft smoky undertone to it. One drawback to this tea is that you have to use a lot of leaves to make it. What is Hojicha? The manufacturer’s website states it is “green tea from Japan that is rendered brown by roasting Bancha tea leaves over charcoals”.
Normally, you use one teaspoon to one cup of water, but on their website they recommend using two teaspoons for every cup of water. I suppose if you wanted your shipment to last longer you could try using one teaspoon per cup and doubling the steeping time, but I would recommend just using two teaspoons.
The brewed tea is a very dark honey brown color. It has an unusual smoky smell with a unique nuttiness. The tea has a smooth, full green tea taste with a slightly roasted flavor, similar to coffee. The manufacturer’s site says the roasting process lowers the caffeine content, making it a lower-caffeine green tea.
I did enjoy this tea but It seemed there was nothing really spectacular about it, but on the other hand there wasn’t anything negative either. I think it would be a good tea just before bed when those night time tea cravings hit, but you need to avoid the caffeine.
