Indonique - A Unique Story and Free Sample Offer

I was recently introduced to a relatively new online tea retailer called Indonique. They’ve got a bit of a unique story and their web site has quite a bit of character, so I thought I’d write a little about it tonight. Indonique began as a proper “Tea & Chai” cafe, founded several years by husband-and-wife team George and Daya Constance in New Orleans. Unfortunately the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 forced them to close down the brick-and-mortar store. They quickly re-established and restructured the business in Connecticut, where it continues today as an online and mail-order tea retailer.

Indonique’s signature blend is their “Authentic” Masala Chai, which is made with imported spices and South India black tea with no preservatives or additives. The recipe they use has been passed down through several generations of Daya’s family in India. (Gambit Magazine reviewed it as the “Best in New Orleans.”)

Although their specialty is chai - and they offer several different kinds - Indonique also sells white, green, ooling, black, estate and flavored teas, as well as herbals, tisanes and iced tea blends. A nice touch: 10% of every purchase is donated to charity - each blend you purchase is linked to a specific charity. If you buy the Masala Chai, for example, 10% goes to UNICEF, while 10% of their Formosan Oolong goes to Feed the Children.
