This tea is a black tea and the spices used were ginger root, cinnamon, cinnamon oil, clove oil, allspice, nutmeg, clove, and cardamom oil. I’m not a big fan of anything spicy but someone gave me a box of this tea so I thought I would give it a try. I had it with a bit of milk and some agave nectar to sweeten it. I never really use milk or sugar in my tea but the manufacturer recommends them for this tea. I really like the fact that the tea bags were individually wrapped. I feel like it lowers the quality of the tea when it’s just a bunch of bags stuffed in a box. The smell of the bag before brewing was amazing. I am a bit of a cinnamon junkie so it smelled like heaven to me. It also worried me a bit since it was very strong.
I had never tried spicy chai tea before and I was nervous it would be too much like drinking hot sauce. I was extremely surprised to have liked it as much as I do. This tea was so pleasant; it reminded me of a good gingerbread cookie. I almost wish I had let it brew longer. I think chai will now be my one exception for adding tea and sugar. I’d rate this tea an eight out of ten. Mainly because it isn’t a tea I would drink year round. It makes for a great winter warm up drink though. The only thing that I didn’t like about it is that it left a spicy odor on the travel mug I used. I commute to work by train so I often have a cup of tea to go in the morning. It took several washings and lots of plain green tea to get rid of the smell. Other than that, this tea was a perfect spicy chai tea.
