This is a black tea from Sri Lanka, which under the old British rule still goes by the name “Ceylon” in the tea trade. This one, according to Adagio’s website, comes from “the renowned Kenelworth Estate”. If you’ve read some of my other reviews, you know that I’m not a great fan of Ceylon teas in general—they tend to be unremarkable in flavor, often reminding me of my earliest experiences with plain (cheap) tea. This one is not cheap tasting—it has a full flavor which consists of a bit of fruitiness in the foreground and some woodiness in the background, which adds some body. This is an accomplishment for a Ceylon tea, since some are so light that you feel like you’re drinking air. Still, there are other black teas with more interesting and distinctive flavors, I think, although it might make a good addition to a homemade blend. It won’t be finding a regular place on my tea shelf, but if you are looking for a basic, inoffensive cup of tea, this might be it.
