Thumbs up!"A fuller-bodied green tea, with a slightly spinach-like taste. I'd definitely recommend it."

janam-gopaldhara.jpgThe leaves of this green tea had a nice earthy smell to them. I steeped them using a mesh metal strainer. This was the first Darjeeling tea that I have tried so I did a bit of research. The leaves in this particular tea come from both the Assam and Darjeeling regions of India. The Darjeeling region in West Bengal, India, has traditionally been known for having supreme black teas. The Gopaldhara estate is the highest altitude tea grower in the world. Assam is in the lowlands of India and the tea is grown at sea level. Before the commercialization of tea began in there, the leaves of the tea plant were chewed by the local villagers with little or no processing.

This tea has a nice golden, straw-like color to it. The manufacturer describes the flavor as spinach-like and I have to agree. Although I don't usually eat spinach at all, I probably would if it tasted more like this tea. It is pleasant with a sweet aftertaste. I do wish I had a bit of honey or agave nectar on hand to sweeten it up a bit. It is fuller bodied than most of the green teas I have tried. The second steeping was just a good as the first. It will be good to have it on hand for when I'm not in the mood for black tea but want something a bit stronger than the Chinese green teas I have. It went very nicely with my salty snack of tortilla chips. After such a great first experience, I will be more inclined to give other Darjeeling teas a try. I would definitely recommend this tea to others.
