The scent of this tea is very strong, strong enough to permeate an entire room, even when contained in a teabag. Its a fruity peppery smell that attacks the nostrils, literally. I sniffed a little two close to the teabag and my nostrils erupted in pain from the spices. This Tisane, like many bagged Teas and Tisanes, was made from fairly pulverized ingredients that had no trouble permeating the bag, and giving my innards a wicked burn, as well as leaving a little grit at the bottom of my glass.
I tried this brew with one bag to a two cup mug, and two bags to a two cup mug. With a single bag the flavors were muted and the spice barely registered, but with the double shot I was brought back to my So-Cal roots. The entire time I was enjoying this southwestern nectar I couldn’t stop thinking about chicken Mole, or more specifically the Mole Sauce itself. I looked it up and the spices between the two are very similar. This Tisane would probably go very well with Mexican, Tex-Mex, and South American food. Its sweet and spicy with a smoky malted flavor that hits the back of the tongue in all the right spots. Like the rural Mexican girl from a Johnny Cash song, this drink leaves you both quenched and on fire at the same time. In the past I wasn’t a big fan of Yogi Teas, but this one very much makes up for it.
