Review: Zoomdweebie’s Chai with Chocolate

My infuser melted in the dishwasher half way through sampling this tea, and as such my opinion may be a bit dated. Essentially I brewed what I had left of the tea today and it was horrible, but it was rather fetching the last time I tried it. Its pretty clear why, semi-sweet chocolate chips. The chocolate flavor of this teas name is derived from the presence of chocolate chips in the mix. It actually seems to work out pretty well, unless you get a teaspoon full of it without one. Sans the chocolate this tea is one of the most rancid brews that’s ever touched my tongue. I’m certain its the ginger root, gone wild, without the chocolate to balance it out. I suppose I’d have to nibble on some raw ginger root to be sure. Not happening, but it would prove the point.
However when tasted as intended, and as I remember, its mighty tasty. This is a rich chai with a strong chocolate undercurrent. It comes out much like a rich, spicy, and just a bit tannic hot chocolate. Oddly this is one of the few Chai blends I’ve tasted that is sufficiently full flavored without milk. This is not to say that other blends are weakly flavored, just that the milk adds a richness that’s lacking, but in this case the chocolate adds that richness with gusto. this is a solid all around desert tea that just about anyone can enjoy, excepting those with dietary issues.

I’m not the biggest fan of chocolate chai, but it seems as if you have a Jekyll and Hyde attitude toward this one. During one sentence, you call it ‘rancid,’ and later, it’s ‘tasty,’ and the only difference is how you prepared it. You said that as intended, it’s great… then why make it not as intended? Just curious…
