I have never been a big fan of ‘washing’ green teas, something about throwing out a perfectly good cup of tea to clean it seems like heresy. My mind imagines a strangely dressed ‘tea-pope,’ in a elaborate teabag hat, chasing me down the street, to hand me off to the inquisitors. But I finally got it with this Tea. It was obvious from the weak flavor, and unopened pearls, that this tea needs a first rapid steeping, to prepare it to release its full flavor. The tea brewed up a light, chardonnay-like, amber color that was very appealing to the eye. The graceful opening of the pearls to reveal the delicate leaves and buds of the tea was also very attractive to the eye.
Jasmine has always held a special place in my mind. Its the scent of a woman on a first date, and the scent of freshly washed bedsheets. For me, the aphrodisiac qualities of jasmine make this, and all jasmine scented Teas and Tisanes, a perfect beverage to share with your love when you’d prefer not to dull your senses with wine. Considering that Valentines day is right around the corner, this Tea would be a very rewarding purchase, even at the premium price it commands.
For many people jasmine teas, of any sort, are a bit off-putting. Often they are infused with far too much jasmine, leaving a soapy sensation on the tongue and crushing the other flavors beneath their feet. Not so with this tea, the jasmine is soft and pleasant, and stands to the side so that the flavor of the Tea can shine. Its a very light vegetal flavor more in keeping with a white tea, not at all what you’d usually expect from a green tea. For those who don’t like the understated delicacy of a fine white tea, this tea will be an expensive waste of your time, but for the rest of us its a sensory delight. I’d recommend this tea to anyone, at least anyone with a healthy Tea budget.
