Its OK"This pu'er is lighter in flavor than most similar blends, though it was difficult to detect any hint of the rose petals."

mightyleaf-rose-puerh-touch.jpgThis tea is delightfully light for a pu-erh. It still has the delightful earthy aftertaste, but I did not feel overwhelmed by it, which is a good thing! Unlike most pu-erh teas I have tried, this one was a little less bitter. The presentation of the leaves, in a compact pressed bowl-shaped capsule, was very appealing. The dry leaves did not have any particularly striking aroma. I was hoping to get a rose note from the leaves, but I couldn’t sense any. This was a bit disappointing.

When the tea-bowl was in the boiling water, it was wonderful to watch. The leaves slowly fell loose from the compressed group and opened while seeping out a beautiful golden color. The tea liquor was a beautiful golden color. The aroma was very earthy, but the flavor was a little lighter, which was pleasing. I let it brew for about 4 minutes, and found that it was the right amount of time for it not to get too bitter (suggested brewing time is 3-5 minutes).

I first tried this pu-erh without any sweetener. I did not get any rose notes at all. I was disappointed again because I was looking forward to the rose flavor that is promised. It was a little bitter, but over all light and earthy, a pleasant light brew for a pu-erh. I finally gave in and added a little sugar to my tea. The sugar brought out a small hint of rose notes. The little bit of sugar also covered up the bitterness and enhanced the earthiness of this tea.

Overall this is not one of my favorite teas. It was an interesting experience, but I don’t think I would go out of my way to acquire more of it. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a light earthy tea. My impression is that it would be a good tea to accompany a meal, or a very sweet desert.
