Its OK"Strong and earthy, almost reminiscent of an oolong... I would have preferred it a bit stronger and more full-bodied though."

stash-organic-breakfast-ble.jpgAfter my mediocre experience with Stash’s English Breakfast tea, it seemed logical to see how the organic version compares. It is simply described as a “blend of organically grown black tea”, although on their website Stash says they “combine flavorful Ceylon from Sri Lanka and full - bodied, dark Indian Assam for a rich and invigorating blend”. I appreciate organic foods and have really enjoyed some of the organic teas from Choice Organics. So, I wanted to see if I would enjoy the organic breakfast tea as much as – or more than – the English Breakfast tea. (A name I find a little comical since it was supposedly developed by a Scottsman).

The look and smell of the leaves was very similar between the two teas. The aroma of the brewed tea is similar to a traditional breakfast tea, but with and extra something I can only describe as ‘natural’. Maybe it is the noticeable absence of pesticides or growth hormones, but I’ve noticed the scent in other teas. It is a little earthier, and shows up in the taste as well.

I do like the organic version better than Stash’ regular English Breakfast tea. I let it steep for a full five minutes to get as much flavor as possible. It does have a slightly stronger taste than the non-organic version, and the earthy taste is slightly reminiscent of an Oolong. The aftertaste is smooth, with just a hint of bitterness on the tongue. However, it is not as strong or full-bodied as others I have tried. I will not replace these bags once they are gone, but I do want to try the loose leaf version. Maybe it will be better quality. All in all though, it is a good average breakfast tea.
