Thumbs up!"A sophisticated blend unlike any I've tried before... I very much enjoyed it, and I imagine jasmine-lovers will as well."

necessiteas-orange-flower.jpgNecessiteas Orange Flower tea has qualities that appeal to the eyes, nose, and mouth. This tea combines oranges and flower blossoms with oolong tea, and is unlike any other tea I have ever tried.

The scent of the tea leaves is almost heavenly. One can definitely detect both fruity and floral scents in this blend, although the floral notes are stronger. The scent was clean and uplifting.

As far as taste, this tea is comparable to (but a little better than) a jasmine-scented tea. Every sip of this tea is accompanied by a strong whiff of refreshing orange blossoms, which also impart a unique flavor to the tea (which is different from some Jasmine teas I have had in which you can only smell, but not taste the flowers). There is just the slightest hint of a fruity citrus flavor, but I must admit that I was hoping for a stronger orange contribution in this brew to balance out the floral notes. The oolong base is very gentle, but perfectly suited for this tea. The oolong tea maintains a very light color, almost like a green tea. I detected just a hint of bitterness to this tea, although is very possible that may have been a result of over-steeping and not necessarily an inherent property of the tea. Regardless, just a little sugar eliminated any bitterness. As with many oolongs, this tea stood up to a second infusion, although the scent and flavor of the orange blossoms was more subdued than in the first steeping, while the essence of any orange was almost absent.

For me, the most pleasant surprise of this tea was the size of the tea leaves. The dry leaves are typical of what one would expect of quality oolong tea, but when steeped, the leaves unfurl to epic proportions. I have never seen any tea leaves (whether white, green, black or oolong) quite this big before. A small amount of dry tea leaves definitely goes a long way.

In the end, I was quite pleased with Necessiteas Orange Flower tea . This tea is quite sophisticated, yet I believe it’s interesting blend of ingredients will appeal to a wide audience of tea drinkers, particularly those who enjoy jasmine teas. This tea is not something I would drink on a daily basis, but I would definitely appreciate its light and refreshing taste on occasion.
