Thumbs up!"The creme flavor was spot-on and the bergamot oil was strong but not sour... this is the best cup of Earl Grey I've ever had"

necessiteas-earl-grey.jpgWith my first sip of this dark nectar I was blown away, not by the flavor itself but by the mere fact that I was able to properly steep it. I haven’t had very good experiences with Earl Grey. In my experience the flavorings added to most Earl Greys seem to spoil at high temperatures, or the tea has no flavor if brewed at anything less than boiling. There was no such trouble with this remarkable blend. It came out smooth and perfect with the first attempt, I just added two cups of boiling water to a little over 2 tsp of tea, let it steep for 4 min, and enjoyed a rich experience I didn’t think could be had without the addition of real creme.

This tea starts with a base of a more traditional bergamot flavored Earl Grey blend, then adds a rich malty creme flavor. I’m not sure if the little blue blooms were responsible for this, at all, I’ve seen them in many Earl Grey blends that don’t have such a rich creme taste. I think their just there to add a visual burst, luckily I never double infuse black teas as the flowers were completely spent after I strained leaf from liquor. The tea smelled exactly like earl grey should, rich, citrus, and with a hint of creme. It was a darker color but not quite as dark as many black teas, I could make out the features of the cup fairly clearly. But the flavor was something else. The Creme flavor was so realistic I felt as if I must have snuck some in the cup by mistake, and the bergamot oil was strong but not sour. Its the best cup of Earl Grey I’ve ever had, and finally justifies everyone’s opinion of it in my book. I have a very dear friend, who very dearly loves Earl Gray, and when we finally get together again this is the tea I plan to serve.
