mightyleaf-orange-dulce-loo.jpgBased on its name, I thought Mighty Leaf's Orange Dulce black tea would be a standard orange-flavored black tea. Luckily for me, I could not have been more incorrect. Mighty Leaf's Orange Dulce black tea turned out to be way more than I expected. This tea is a sweet, rich, and complex brew that has flavor notes and scents that will appeal to almost anyone. The folks at Mighty Leaf created this tasty treat by mixing together Ceylon and China black teas, green tea, citrus, jasmine blossoms, and vanilla. The result is a full-bodied tea that offers fruity, floral, and sweet notes. Interestingly, while orange, jasmine, and vanilla flavors are each strong flavors in their own right, the combination of these ingredients in this tea is perfectly balanced so that no single ingredient dominates. Instead, these ingredients come together as a team, and each ingredient has its moment to shine. The jasmine starts off the show during the steeping, when the blossoms really open up and offer their characteristic sweet, floral scent. There are just enough jasmine blossoms to add to the aroma and flavor of the tea without overdoing it. The citrus and vanilla combine to form the substance of the blend, and then the jasmine seems to re-emerge and linger on the finish.

What distinguishes this tea from other flavored teas (particularly those teas with orange, vanilla or jasmine as ingredients) is that this blend offers the most delicate of flavors. Each flavor-providing ingredient is offered in a toned-down form, which really allows you to taste the variety of different flavors as well as the black tea itself. My only criticism is that the vanilla could have been just a bit more noticeable. Mighty Leaf says they added green tea to the blend, however it must be in very minute amounts, as I could neither see nor taste it. This is also one of the few black tea blends that I drank without even considering the addition of sugar or honey. Very often, full-bodied black teas seem to beg for sugar to cut the strong taste, but the tea blend offers enough natural sweetness that I didn't want or need to add any sugar.

Mighty Leaf's Orange Dulce black tea is a great morning pick-me-up, and because of its full body and flavor complexity, this tea would probably also pair well with many meals. I would highly recommend this tea as an all-around wonderful black tea. This is truly a superb tea blend.
