mightyleaf-dragonwell.jpgDragonwell (Long jing) refers to a type of green from Hangzhou, a Chinese city with a famous literary history. This leaves of this dragonwell are very light green with a grayish tinge. They look and smell sort of like dried blades of grass, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The brew they produce is very light and almost bluish gray. It doesn’t look like your typical green. The fragrance is a little buttery, grassy and smoky–a bit like popcorn. The flavor is very light. This one has decent fragrance but loses points in the flavor department simply because it’s a little too low on flavor for me. Still, it’s not watery, just very mild, which is typical of Chinese greens in my experience. So, if you enjoy a very light, delicate-tasting green tea with a grassy fragrance you might enjoy this one.
