"I enjoyed this tea, though I wish the citrus flavor was more pronounced.... this is definitely more a spiced tea than anything else."

Indonique wins big points for a very creative website and a clever marketing approach that involves donating a percentage of the purchase price of each tea to a different charity. I was really looking forward to sampling the Orange Spiced Organic Black Tea, a flavor of tea that is common, but in my opinion is either hit or miss. After only 3 minutes of steeping, the tea brewed up to an almost opaque, very dark liquid. Indonique’s version of the orange spice tea contains just the mildest hint of citrus, and in truth, I wished I could taste a little more of the orange flavor. Had I tasted this tea without being told what flavor it was beforehand, I am not sure I would have been able to pick out the orange flavor beneath the spices. The spice flavors (primarily cinnamon ) are definitely the most noticeable element to this tea. Indonique website’s boasts that the tea is “sweet and fruity without the tangy aftertaste”. While I did enjoy this tea, I really couldn’t disagree with that statement more; in my opinion the tea was too subtle on the fruit, definitely had a spicy kick which lingered from beginning of sip to the aftertaste, and was in need of sugar to balance out the spices and strong black tea. Still, I found this tea enjoyable and perfectly suited for a cold or rainy day. Because it is a rather thick and heavily-spiced tea, I don’t think this tea would be terrific iced, but it might be just what some iced tea drinkers are craving. Interestingly, the more I sampled this tea, the more I experienced a sense of deja vu, and I found myself thinking “I’ve had this tea before”. Knowing that was impossible, though, I finally realized that the cinnamon-spice flavor of this Indonique blend is actually very comparable to the cinnamon-spice flavors found in some Bigelow herbal teas, such as “Orange & Spice” and “Cinnamon apple” blends. Unfortunately, Indonique’s website doesn’t divulge the ingredients in this tea, so I can’t really make a fair comparison of their tea’s ingredients with those of the Bigelow teas, but I guess that since both apparently rely heavily on the addition of cinnamon, then it’s no suprise that these teas are similar in taste. Even though this tea’s flavor is comparable to that of teas that are readily available at the supermarket, I would still recommend this tea to others, even if only as a way to introduce others to the wide availability of tea products outside of the supermarket. In my opinion, the tea is a little pricy for what it delivers in taste, but since some of the cost goes to charity, the price, like the tea, is easy to swallow.
