Review: Jacksons of Piccadilly Green Tea with Elderflower

I first become acquainted with Jacksons of Piccadilly through their (now discontinued) Earl Grey, which remains one of my all-time favorites (though its recently been supplanted as the best by Indonique’s Extra Fancy Earl Grey, q.v.). It seems they’re completely rebranding themselves of late and this “Green Tea with Elderflower” I guess is part of that process and their new line of “wellness” teas. All the new JoP teas seem to have sleek white and silver packaging to go along with their website, which is actually quite stunningly-designed. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any information on this particular blend from their site.
I don’t know that I’ve ever had an “elderflower” tea before. Apparently elderflower brews are popular in Eastern Europe, especially in Romania where its made into a syrupy concoction called Socată. Its believed to be a common cure for colds and fever. All that is fine but what interests me is taste and, well, elderflowers really do have a wonderful taste and aroma. The smell is sort of a mixture of flowery honeysuckle and slightly-citrus fruit, and really quite nice. The flavor is similar though a bit more heavily weighted on the flowery end of things.
Altogether I enjoyed this blend, though the quality of the green tea seems sub-par - its slightly bitter and doesn’t have much in the way of distinguishing characteristics. But as a convenient teabag green tea, its better than many other’s I’ve tried. I don’t know that I’d buy it again but certainly I’ll have no problem drinking this again in the future.
