choice-white-jasmine.jpgI have been found of Choice Organic teas for a while now. Their Oolong was the first one I enjoyed and drank it regularly for quite a while. Choice Organic, as the name would imply, is a seller of organic teas. Many of their teas are “Fair Trade” teas, which means that the company only buys from plantations who observe at least a minimum standard of worker’s rights and fair pay. I have found their teas to be consistently good, although not outstanding. Organic White Jasmine continues this tradition.

Organic White Jasmine is a blend of organic white teas, organic green teas, and jasmine. The teabag and grindings were of average appearance, much like what you would expect to see in most brands. The bouquet of the leaves was muted, really not revealing much about what was enclosed. Following the general tendency to steep tea relative to its oxidation, I steeped this one for about two minutes. The cup had an inviting, yet calming aroma, which suggests a relaxing cup of tea rather than one to get your morning started. Perhaps selecting it after having a big lunch was not a good idea.

I have enjoyed this tea about three or four times and have always been impressed in its simple and delicate flavor. It is not a strong tea and the flavors do not jump out at you. It has a light green tea flavor, accented by jasmine, with an earthy quality I have come to expect from organic teas. In fact, it is reminiscent of the earthy quality often found in Oolongs. The aftertaste is more astringent than you normally expect from a white or green tea, more like an Oolong or black tea. When I enjoy White Jasmine, I feel like I am enjoying a healthy cup of tea. It has many of the basic flavors tea drinkers enjoy, including the flavor of the earth itself. However, it is not a substitute for a traditional green or white tea.
