Thumbs up!"The green tea and jasmine flavors compliment each other very well... though I was disappointed that I could only get one decent infusion from this bloom."

primula.jpgBlooming teas or Flowering teas are somewhat of a novelty here in the United States and have only in the past few years gained popularity. The art of sewing tea leaves into rosettes and than dried is actually a very old tradition that is taking on a new light. Primula tea is a brand I haven’t heard of until I received a sample of their Green tea with fresh Jasmine flowering tea. Each little jewel is individually sealed in a foil bag and according to their website have an amazing 2 ½ year shelf life. There is really no information about what kind of tea they use or where it comes from. In fact the only information they give you about this specific product is “…made of AA Green Tea with dried flowers. The flowers are blended with fresh jasmine to create an enhanced aroma and taste.”

Having tried Numi teas and the similar products that they offer I must say that the visual appeal to these little things is really something everyone should see at least once, especially if you have a clear glass container to watch it. This one floated at the top for a little while until it soaked up some of the water and began to sink and unfold. It is really an amazing thing that they tie each individual leaf together in such a way that you can only appreciate the work that goes into it.

The tea itself was really nice. It came out to a darker golden color than I was not expecting but the flavor was amazing. The true green tea flavor is right there and the jasmine has just the right amount of punch to compliment the fresh green taste without overpowering it. The aftertaste was very buttery and the jasmine actually added a hint of sweetness without being “perfume” like.

The one thing I have negative to say about this is that the website claims that each individual flower will brew up to 15 cups of tea while I only got 1 three cup brew out of it. My clear glass teapot is three cups so I filled it for the first brew, but the second time around there was practically no flavor left and only a hint of jasmine remained.

These types of teas are much more expensive than traditional tea because of the extra work that goes into crafting them. I must admit that I like them but they tend to not be the best quality of tea and lack flavor I can find in much cheaper teas. I give this tea a 7/10 because it really is a good tea and a great product. The jasmine flavor is really nice in this one but I still currently think Dragon Pearl’s Mountain Jasmine Dragon Pearl has the best jasmine flavor for the price. These may be a novelty, but that’s included in the price and they’re just not quite the best.

    Hi Shane,
Great review. I went to the website and tried the flower teas. They were really tasty. I agree that a glass pot is the best way to enjoy the teas.
Did you try the black tea with earl grey flavor? I thought it was even better then the jasmine green tea.

These flowering teas are a wonder to behold and fun to watch. The tea ball, right out of the package, looks like a funny colored nut with the scent of tea and jasemin. Place it in the bottom of a tea cup or tea pot (the best show happens in an all glass one), and add hot, but not boiling water, sit back and watch. It’s amazing to see it open up into a beautiful bouquet. The green leaves are the tea (green scented with jasmin) and the flower are one a 12 different selections. As one person said to me, “tea flowers make you sit and relax in a go-go-go world.” I would recomend this to anyone who loves tea.

I absolutely love it. The unique green tea keeps me energized. I drink from the same glass mug with the magnificent flower in it all day and simply refill the water! I can’t believe I found the “secret garden”. Now I know why the Chinese attorney in my office is so gorgeous and healthy, she drinks Primula green tea every day too! And such a pretty treat as well. Everyone admires it on my desk. Five starts!

    My Rating: 10/10

The tea is very good and the flower was beautiful. I travel to China often and really enjoy Chinese green tea. This is some of the best quality green tea that I have tasted.
