I am fairly new to flavored oolong teas and I am thoroughly enjoying discovering them. A good oolong by itself is really a treat for me but the addition of a flavor was either going to be something that wouldn’t work at all or work really good, like we know all to well when it comes to tea.
Today I decided to give the Peach Oolong a try from Specialteas. They describe this tea as “Specially selected Formosa Oolong teas, naturally flavored with peach pieces to underline the peach aroma of the Oolong. A very popular blend, flavorful and smooth.” The tea is nothing more than oolong tea, some peach pieces, and flavoring.
So I brewed the tea as directed and let it cool down. There is a very fresh scent of sweet fruit from the tea, although somewhat subtle. The first thing you will get when tasting is the creaminess of the oolong followed by the peach flavor and a nice nutty note through the entire sip. It is incredibly smooth and not bitter at all even if you overstep. The peach flavor doesn’t develop fully and like the description says it really just acts to bring out the fruity peach tone that the oolong already has.
The peach oolong from Specialteas is not a tea you’re going to buy for the peach flavor, because it just isn’t there as much as you would want in a peach tea. Although flavored I think this is still more towards an oolong lover but worth a try for everyone. I really like how the flavor develops in this one from one thing to the next. I am thinking this would be one of the best iced teas you could make and I’ll be giving that a try when I order some more.
