"A black tea blend that's earthy and with definite notes of chocolate... a tea I hope never to be without."

Breakfast teas are a favorite of mine, and although I often drink them with breakfast, occasionally one finds a tea that is good any time of day. This is the case with French Breakfast by Mariage Freres, the famous teahouse located in Paris, France, but available through a very few outlets in the U.S. I happen to live near one of the few places around with a large selection of Mariage Freres teas available for purchase in bulk, the Cultured Cup in Dallas. French Breakfast is one of those teas that I never want to be without. The tea, a black blended tea, is advertised by Mariage Freres as a “blend of China and Indian teas producing a full, rounded cup with hints of malt and chocolate”. I find this to be a very good description of the flavor. It has the maltiness of a good Assam, combined with a bit of earthiness typical of good Chinese blacks and with a definite note of chocolate, something many of us black tea drinkers can get hooked on once experienced, especially if you are a chocolate lover J. This combination of flavors, which I have found to be smoothly and consistently blended each time I have bought a new supply, is equally suitable for breakfast (when the maltiness combined with milk) can be appreciated, or after dinner when paired with a dessert or chocolate (when the chocolate overtones can be enjoyed). This tea goes quite well with milk, but it is enjoyable on its own as well. Highly recommended!

Exemplary. The chocolate accent is distinct, yet subtle enough to avoid becoming tiring by the bottom of the cup. Great with milk.
