teavana-queen-of-bablyon.jpgTeavana describes this tea as a whimsical tasting rare white tea blended with pomegranate seeds, sour cherries, sweet carrot bits, apples and pineapple pieces. There seemed to be very little tea leaves in comparison with the other ingredients. It was a bit odd because the white tea I could see didn’t look like any of the other white teas I have tried. This tea didn’t really have much of an odor to it before brewing. The brew was light yellow in color but fairly dark for a white tea. I used my Zarafina tea maker, set on strong white.

I found this tea to be bitter and rather tasteless, even after a second steeping. I was all set to give this tea a very negative review but I decided to give it another try using a different setting, this time on strong herbal. There was a huge difference in the quality of taste between the two settings. It was sweet and fruity with a nice kick to it. However, I think the variety of flavors masked the white tea too much. If this were billed as an herbal tea, I probably would have a better opinion of it. I’m a bit of a purist in that I usually don’t like to add anything to white tea. The flavor is usually so delicate that it is easily ruined if not done well. I can’t say that it is a bad tea but I won’t be purchasing it for my own collection.

I’m always weary when my tea doesn’t have much tea in it! :)

Again, you guys must be doing something wrong, because this tea is fantastic…

  3. IHeartTea Says:

Be careful when brewing white teas; they steep at a much lower temperature (about 175) than green, oolong or black teas. If you are using too-hot water, you can make the tea bitter. If you can’t control your water temperature, try infusing some ice cubes (3or 4 per cup) as you steep your tea. Good luck!
