Thumbs up!"I'm not an Earl Grey fan, but this tea was a winner for me... a great balance of citrus, smokiness and creaminess. "

necessiteas-earl-grey.jpgOkay, I admit it. I typically don't like Earl Gray tea. I can't remember a single time when I felt satisfied after drinking a cup of Earl Gray, as it's just one of those flavors that doesn't do it for me. However, I decided to see if my taste buds have changed over time, so I requested a sample of the Necessiteas' Earl Gray la Creme, with the expectation that the "la creme" part could offer an interesting twist on a classic tea flavor. On first sip, I was greeted with that typical (and, in my opinion, pungent) bergamot orange flavor with subtle smoky undertones, but no real sense of a creamy flavor as indicated by the tea's name. My initial reaction to this particular take on Earl Gray tea was thus the same as my reactions to all prior Earl Gray teas: yes, the tea is drinkable, but it's just not something I find entirely enjoyable. Interestingly enough, though, I found that once I really gave this tea a chance, it was quite tasty, and did live up to its name. See, at first, the tea was quite hot, so I could barely sip it and when I did, all I could taste was the characteristic bergamot flavor. But after allowing the tea to cool to a temperature that less resembled that of volcanic lava, I was really able to taste a creaminess to the tea. In fact, the creaminess was so evident that I actually found myself (in my sleep-deprived state) second-guessing whether I had added milk to the tea. Indeed, inspection of the dark tea confirmed that I had not added milk and that the sweet creaminess was an inherent quality of this tea. Thanks to the Necessiteas Earl Gray la Creme, for the first time in my life I actually enjoyed a cup of Earl Gray, and (gasp!) might actually willingly drink another! The Necessiteas Earl Gray la Creme manages to offer a nice balance of citrus, smokiness, and creaminess that likely has universal appeal, including to tea drinkers who tend to avoid Earl Gray teas. I'm still not a solid Earl Gray fan, but if the craving for Earl Gray ever strikes me, I know which tea I will be reaching for.

This tea reminds me of the Earl Grey Creme Flavored Black Tea, I recently reviewed on my blog. The manufacturer escapes me right now.

Nevertheless, it was fabulous! Glad you enjoyed.
