Teapigs is a British company that offers high-quality tea in convenient bag form. The tea bags are not your standard cheap-o bag; I believe they are made of some sort of silk and are big enough to give ample room for the ingredients to mix around during the infusion. Another bonus of this type of upscale teabag is that it is sheer and roomy enough to allow the drinker to get a nice good look at what is inside, which in this case was an assortment of dried cranberries and blueberries. Teapigs Super Fruit was, for me, a “nostalgia tea”. From beginning to end, this teabag brought back memories of my childhood. The teabag had an interesting scent that instantly brought me back to childhood visits to the candy store and fruit flavored bubblegum (think Bubbilicious or Hubba Bubba). While there was definitely a real berry element to the tea, there was also some unidentifiable sweet element to the scent which just did not seem natural. Teapigs Super Fruit tea brews to a truly interesting tea. After brewing it for less than a minute, the tea turned a dark purple, which again brought me back to my childhood and grape Kool-aid or Gatorade. As the teabag continued to steep, though, the tea eventually became a dark reddish-purple . With this tea, what you smell is exactly what you get. The sweetness of blueberries and tartness of cranberries come through not only in the scent, but also in the flavor. Unfortunately, there was also that unidentifiable sweet yet artificial component that permeated the brew. The more I drank the tea, the more noticeable that mystery scent and flavor became, detracting from an otherwise enjoyable and interesting cup of tea. The mystery essence also induced another nostalgic flashback of the fruit punch flavored toothpaste that my dental hygienist used to clean my teeth when I was a child. Due to the fact that this tisane is (almost) entirely made of berries, there is a tart and acidic-like quality to the liquid. In all, though, I did enjoy this tea. The berry flavors are pretty strong and the tea is perfectly fine without needing to add milk or sugar. I rate this one a 6 out of 10, with points lost due to that weird unidentifiable component that permeated the blend.
