The reviews for Zhena's Gypsy Teas were all over the board. I wasn't sure what to expect with this raspberry earl grey, but it sure seemed like a good combination. However, it's hard for me to give an opinion on this merging of flavors even after having tasted it.I liked the company's back story as provided by Teaviews. I myself love aromatherapy and tea, so naturally a dream job would be to blend it and sell it. Not only that, but make money doing it! That's what Zhena did and I applaud her for that. But...
The website is unsatisfactory in regards to the actual ingredients in this tea. The information seems to contradict itself. First, when discussing the aromatherapy qualities of this tea, ginger is mentioned. There is no aromatic or taste bud indication of ginger in this tea. The ingredients are listed as follows: organic black tea, essential oil of Italian bergamot orange, all natural flavors (all these ingredients are organic). Again with the vague “flavors†...œ what are these flavors? I can only assume raspberry. But ginger? I think not. Also, is bergamot an orange? I know it's citrus, but this confuses me.
Anyway, onto the tea. The flavor is virtually non-existent. I left the teabag in and let it sit for quite awhile. I did smell a very elusive raspberry quality and an even more obscure earl grey zing, but they did not come through in the taste at all.
After all was said and done, I was left with a weak and watery tea that functioned only to give me a boost of caffeine with no flavor. Basically, it was like hot tap water. It is a great disappointment for this earl grey and raspberry lover. Maybe a tea newbie would find this OK. However, it's not a repurchase for me or anyone else with a love of tea.
