I suppose its time I earn my keep and post another review. I don’t know what it is, but lately I seem to have trouble finding time to sit down and write these. I certainly don’t have any trouble drinking the teas, but apparently the actual writing is a different matter entirely.
Today I am going to review Harney & Sons Earl Grey Imperial. Its an Earl Grey blend (my powers of deduction are astounding I know) that comes in one of the nifty nylon pyramid bags. The pyramid bag is nifty solely because it gives the tea a little more room to expand, which in turn creates a larger water/leaf contact area. In my book it has several hits against it from the start. First these bags do not decompose so it feels a bit wasteful, although no more wasteful than any other bagged tea sold in individual packaging, and second its a earl grey… I’ve never been particularly fond of the Earl.
While we would hardly exchange BFF beaded necklaces, I didn’t hate this tea. Even though I still found the bergamot a bitter, unnecessary distraction, the tea itself is a good, strong black tea. I’m actually a little surprised that such a rich black tea actually found its way into a bag. Its definitely a blend, but I can make out the gentile smoky tang of Darjeeling, although its hard to tell amongst the other flavors. All in all someone not so disliking of bergamot would probably love this tea as is, and I’d definitely enjoy a go at it sans the black sheep of the citrus family.
