Jacksons of Piccadilly’s Fairtrade Green Tea is a really interesting tea. I had not had an elderflower tea before, so I really didn’t know what to expect. The Elderflower offers a very clean and floral aroma, with an almost citrus blossom type flavor. The floral flavor is very light and refreshing, not in the least bit overpowering. There is almost a hint of a honey sweetness in the aroma and flavor. The elderflower pairs quite nicely with the smooth and subtle green tea base. The packet for the tea bag contained very little information regarding the origin of the tea, but I am guessing it is a Japanese green tea. A close inspection of the tea bag revealed very small specks of tea leaves, which automatically had me preparing for a bitter or tasteless tea. Surprisingly, this tea was still pretty decent, probably for two reasons: first, I think tea specks and tea dust reduce the quality of black teas more noticeably than green teas, and second, the elderflower is the primary player here, so the size of the tea leaves isn’t of prime importance. I have had better floral-type green teas, but as far as convenient teabags go, Jacksons of Piccadilly Fairtrade Green Tea with Elderflower is a decent brew. This tea falls in the category of “teas I wouldn’t necessarily buy myself, but teas that I would happily drink again”.
