Review: Teavana Queen of Babylon

It was at my local Teavana that I first began to cultivate my love of loose leaf teas, so I am always interested in trying something new from them. I noticed that this particular blend hadn’t been very well received by my fellow reviewers, but nonetheless, I went into my review open minded.
The tea in the sample smells fruity although there is not one particular fruit I would say the aroma resembles. Teavana states it includes white tea, pomegranate seeds, cherries, carrots, apple and pineapple. This tea did require some trial and error in regards to the brew time and temperature. I ended up getting the best flavor when the water had cooled to about 175 degrees and was left to brew for about 4 minutes. The finished brew was very pale, which is pretty normal for white teas. I could actually detect the delicate white tea flavor much more than I had anticipated in the original sipping of the tea, but the aftertaste was ALL pomegranate and cherry tartness. I think it may be the pomegranate that kept me from enjoying this tea more. I have tried other teas with pomegranate and it appears to be a difficult flavor to get “just right” as far as my tastes are concerned. On the upside, the cherry flavor did not seem artificial in the least, as sometimes seems to be the case. All in all, this was not a bad tea, and for those who enjoy pomegranate more than I do, it would probably be considered very good.
