Oolong is an interesting tea in that each time you try a different blend or estate, you can experience something new. Just 4 Tea's Winter Oolong ranks among the lightest and most refreshing oolongs I have had. According to Just 4 Tea, the tea hails from the AnXi area of the Fujian Province. The smell of the dry leaves is clean and floral, but not overpoweringly so. The leaves appear as small nuggets, almost like a gunpowder. The leaves steep to produce a pale yellow liquid, comparable to soup broth. The tea was much lighter than other oolongs I have had. With this tea, just a little bit of leaves definitely went a long way, as the amount of leaves I used (approximately 1.5 teaspoons) could hardly be contained in the large infuser once the leaves started opening. The light floral aroma observed in the dried leaves carried through to the brewed liquid in both scent and taste. There is a notable absence of a nutty flavor element often found in oolong. The flavor is heavily floral with just a hint of a sweetness in the finish. In a nutshell, this tea is smooth and goes down very easily. Because I had brewed a rather large pot, some of the tea cooled before I had a chance to drink it, but being so crisp and light, this tea was quite enjoyable cooled. Seldom do I enjoy iced oolong tea., so this tea gets extra points for being as enjoyable cooled as hot. As with most oolongs, the leaves can be infused multiple times, and with this tea there does not seem to be a loss of quality of flavor with successive steepings. This is a high quality tea that would be appreciated by the oolong lover.
