lupicia-muscat-oolong.jpgThe first thing that comes to mind when smelling this tea is wine. Perhaps a sweet one like a zinfandel. Drinking the tea reminded me of tasting cabernet grapes right off the vine at the Mondavi Vineyards in Napa (yes, they do let you do this on the tour.) It follows with an earthy, almost twig-like after taste (but in a good way.) It was a very strong flavored tea with very complex flavors. As an oolong, it warrants multiple infusions, and on the second, the flavor was “rounder” and smooth, but still an enjoyable drink. We tried a third infusion and it produced a classic oolong flavor. The grape flavors were gone and we were left with an earthy, very drinkable tea. We returned to the first infusion, this time iced, with a bit of Lupicia’s Yume Honey added and Wow! It was almost like drinking candy. It had a strong grape and honey flavor, with a natural, tea sensation in the back of the throat - a real pleasant experience. I recommend this tea, hot or cold, for both the sophisticated tea connoisseur, and the back porch, hot-day, iced tea drinker.
