Its OK"A slightly maple, slightly cinnamon, completely ginger tea... almost with a peppery bite. A bit too spicy for my tastes."

teaguys-carrot-cake.jpgI really wanted to love this tea. Not just like it, but love it! The ingredients were, in my opinion, everything a good rooibos flavored tea should be: organic rooibos, organic honeybush, cinnamon, carrots, cloves, walnuts, raisins, ginger, coconut, maple brittle, natural flavors (my favorite vague reference to a flavor). It sounded divine.

It smells divine. The dry tea smells exactly like a slightly spicy maple syrup. It reminds me instantly of shopping in little country stores. Around here, it’s not too far to Amish country where wooden-slatted bulk spice and cheese shops abound. The aromatic experience is exactly like one of those rustic old barn-like shops. The aroma of it when steeped is just as autumnal and comforting. It will be a wonderful fireside tea to drink during the long winter months.

The taste leaves me wanting. I want a sweet, cakey, and buttery flavor with the crisp and subdued rooibos base. What I have is a slightly maple, slightly cinnamon, completely ginger tea. I don’t like ginger when it is singled out. This tea borders on hot - not the temperature of the water, but the spice itself. It is almost peppery in its gingerness.

The tea is all right. I have spied some other carrot cake rooibos blends from other tea companies and I will try those instead. That is not to say this isn’t a quality blend that is worth a try if you like spicy tea. It is. It’s not that I dislike it; it’s that it is dominated by one of my four least favorite tea flavorings.

Conclusion: It boasts a spicy cake-like flavor but is heavy on the ginger. If you like an extra gingery flavor, you’ll love this.
