teavana-matevana.jpg Mate' blends always seem to go one of two ways: you can either taste the flavors in the tea or the mate itself, theres almost never a good balance of both.

I love the mild, coffee-like taste of mate and it would really enhance any chocolate or nut flavor it's paired with, so it's always a bummer when one or the other gets lost in the blend.

There are several ingredients listed for this tea:Roasted Mate leaves, cocoa, rooibos tea, chocolate pieces and almond bits, cactus blossoms, cornflower petals, and sunflower petals. The ones that are most detectable are the mate' leaves, cocoa, and almond bits. The other flavors aren't missed, as this tea seems to be blended perfectly in terms of the more obvious flavors coming through. Overall, it's a rich tasting, complex tea. I also like the red tea that's included, giving it added antioxidants, (I really like that Teavana blends different types of tea, and not just flavors, in general).

Similar to the taste, the aroma of the blend is primarly coffee-like, with chocolate undertones. It's a very pleasant, stimulating scent.

Unfortunately, this slipped under the radar, and I didn't notice it wasn't vegan, so I won't be purchasing this myself. That's the only reason this doesn't have a place in my cupboard, though, as it's an excellent mate' blend.

I’ve done the MateVana. It was my first exposure to roasted mate ever. A friend of mine gave it to me as a birthday present, along with an ounce of Teavana’s rooibos chai. Having tried green yerba mate since then, I would say I prefer it unroasted.

Didn’t bother my stomach as much.
