Vanessa’s Teaview Snapshot
"This is definitely a high-quality oolong, and if you like your oolongs flowery, than you will probably love this tea. "

If there is one thing that my reviewing of Rishi Teas has taught me so far (as this is my third Rishi Tea review), it is that their website is just about spot-on in the descriptions of their teas. Whereas some websites from other tea companies can either be completely vague in their descriptions or go so overboard in their claims of what the tea tastes like, Rishi describes their teas so accurately that one can order their teas with confidence, knowing exactly what to expect from each tea they offer. I sampled Rishi's Bao Zhong before reading what Rishi had to say about this particular tea. My first observation about this tea was the overwhelming floral aroma and flavor. Personally, I am much more a fan of nutty Formosa oolongs than floral oolongs, so I knew from the first whiff that I wouldn't love this tea. For a floral oolong, however, I really thought this was a great cup of tea. The liquid brews up to a pale yellowish-green color, unlike any other oolong I have seen before. The floral notes hit my nose instantly as I took my first sip, and followed through from the beginning to end. The floral scent was heavy on a lilac-esque essence, but the taste was more of a general floweriness. Even though the tea was a bit heavy (for me) on the floral notes, I was impressed that it still managed to maintain an appreciable crispness. I infused the same leaves a second time and noticed a slight reduction in the strength of the flowery taste, which I preferred. While drinking the tea and thinking about what I would write for this review, the only words that came to mind were floral, flowery, and flower. Thus, I decided to visit Rishi's website to see how they describe the tea, and it turns out that we had pretty similar takes on Bao Zhong, as Rishi states that their tea is a "fresh, clear green and delicate infusion with flowery notes of lilac and lily". That, in a nutshell, is exactly what you can expect from this tea. I rank this tea a 7 out of 10, and the only reason I didn't rate it higher was because I personally prefer less-floral oolongs. This is definitely a high-quality oolong, though, so if you like your oolongs flowery, than you will probably love this tea.
