Bao Zhong is a lightly oxidized Taiwanese oolong that is very similar to green tea, yet still maintains those wonderful characteristics of a good oolong. This one from Rishi tea looked quite nice and I followed the brewing parameters that they give on their website, one tablespoon to 8 ounces of water. I ended up getting 3 decent infusions out of the leaves, adding about a minute to each steep. There are quite a bit of broken up pieces in the tea but also a lot of nice full leaves that expand.As I would have assumed this tea was much more floral than anything else. It was nice and smooth, light, a bit sweet, and only the slightest bit nutty at the end. The color is a most gentle clear green and drinks very easily. I was afraid that the flavors of this one would be too subtle for my tastes but I was proven wrong. There is plenty of good stuff in this one to make your taste buds fire.
The one thing with Rishi teas is that they are quite expensive for a single ounce. This one is $7 for an ounce although a pound is $56, and even at $38 for half a pound it becomes quickly apparent that a “good deal†from Rishi will probably consist of bulk orders. I've been told their tea is much cheaper if you can find it in a grocery store, so price aside this is a really great tea and at the price for a pound it is a great value in tea. This is a light oolong that is a must try for sure!
