Cinnamon Orange Spice by Tea Guys is a tea that could never be confused about having an identity crisis. This tea is most definitely a blend of cinnamon, spices, and orange. With its heavy cinnamon aroma, the tea reminded me of apple cider. I put the package closer to my nose for the second sniff test and instantly erupted in a sneezing fit, a sign that the spice load was pretty heavy. The label on this blend says that the black tea is mixed with cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and a touch of citrus. I think that perhaps the most appreciable thing about this tea is the appearance of the dry blend. I could easily see pieces of cinnamon bark, crystallized ginger, cloves, and small pieces of orange rind in this blend. As I suspected from the smell test, this tea brews up to an intensely flavored beverage. The orange and spices are undoubtedly here in full force, almost making an assault on the taste buds. To me the flavors were just a little too harsh. The tea was more palatable with a healthy addition of sugar, but was still too strong for my likings. I typically enjoy teas with similar flavor elements as this tea, but this tea took those flavors to a new level. Perhaps if the level of spice ingredients was reduced, this would make for a milder cup of tea that is easier on the taste buds. I should also mention that I sampled this tea during the peak of Miami summer; naturally a tea that is so heavy on the flavor would be difficult to appreciate since the heaviness does not lend itself to being refreshing, whether taken hot or iced. To me, this tea is better suited as a fall and winter beverage, since its flavors are very similar to apple cider, pumpkin pie, and other such spice-flavored treats associated with the cooler seasons. Overall, this is definitely a tea that contains high-quality ingredients rather than artificial flavors, but my wimpy taste buds just couldn't handle the level of spice. If you like cinnamon-spice teas and you are tolerant to "kicked-up" spicy flavors, this is the tea for you.
