This tea was a finalist in the overall black (no limit) category in the WTC. FTGFOP1 stands for Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe, which is part of a tea grading system. The website says this is a superstar of the 2nd flush harvest. As I understand it, the 2nd flush’s tend to be darker. A lot of people don’t realize that Darjeeling represents less than 1% of all teas in India.
As I look at the dry leaves I admire the high quality leaves and inhale the incredible fruity aroma. The wet leaves expand nicely and the colors remind me of fall with their variety of colors. The tea has a nice body, with a lot of flavor, a slight bite and a long finish. It was nice with milk and honey and iced as well. I think this is one of my favorite Darjeelings and I can see that they don’t call it the champagne of teas for nothing.
