"It is very light tasting compared to many black teas. Every sip has a nice smell of muscatel to it. "

Background:
This is the first Lupicia tea I have tried. Opening the single serving bag released the most wonderful fruity, sweet scent. It reminds me of red licorice, fruits, and a hint of citrus. The Lupicia USA website says the decaffeinated tea leaves are scent with “succulent muscatels”. I have since learned that a muscatel is sweet aromatic grape used for raisins and white wine. I loved the smell. Strong distinctive and yet for me at least not too much.
I worked on a cooperative farm in the late 1980’s. I did a lot of tractor driving and I usually worked the grape harvest. All the harvesting was done by machine, this wasn’t a highend, boutique vineyard. I drove a tractor with a large (very large) bucket that the picker would fill with the grapes. It was critical to pick the grapes at the right sugar content. Also, to keep the sugar content just right we only worked at night from about 9 PM to 8 or 9 AM. The smells reminds me of a full load of the grapes. The whole vineyard took on an sweet smell during the harvest. The tea brings me back to those days and is very familiar.
The Lupicia sample I received came in a very cool pyramid shaped tea bag. The bag was see-thru. Really cool bag.
Brewing:
I boiled the water and let it sit for about a minute before steeping. I steeped the tea for about 4 minutes.
Taste/Impressions:
The tea has a wonderful muscatel smell to it. I generally do not drink black teas. This tea is very nice. The black tea has a wonderful taste. Keep in mind that it is decaffeinated. This tea has no bitterness to it. It is very light tasting compared to many black teas. Every sip has a nice smell of muscatel to it. The balance of flavors is very nice.
As I mentioned that is my first Lupicia tea. More information about Lupicia can be found at: http://www.lupiciausa.com/. The About Us section tells that over 400 varieties of teas are available. The website has extensive information and each tea is labeled with a wide variety of information including whether it goes well with milk, low or non- decaffeinated, and whether it is recommended as an iced tea. There is a really extensive amount of information carried on the label. Some teas are available in bag form.
Conclusion:
I really enjoyed this tea. I only have the one sample but this is a tea that I will put on my “To Order” list. The aroma is nice and me connects me to a prior time in my life. I found the tea to be well balanced with no bitterness. This is a nice black tea that isn’t too strong or overbearing and the muscatel flavoring is very nice indeed.
