I found the dry tea very tempting. Even before I brewed it, I spied some huge chunks of ingredients, mostly fruit. This brew is made up of “a sweet & sour, caffeine & sugar-free blend of Chamomile, Blood Orange, Cranberry, Apple, Cherry and Hibiscus flowersâ€Â. That is word for word from the Tavalon website.
It smelled like sweet tart candy. Then it brewed up into an absolutely beautiful magenta color and took on an even more sour cherry candy aroma. Yes, the cherries conquered any other flavor or fragrance in this blend. It was a welcome change of pace from what I normally drink. Perhaps the sour cherry quality masked the hibiscus. Perhaps the hibiscus wasn't such a key player on this team. Whatever the case, I was able to look past the hibiscus and enjoy the tea as a fruit and caffeine-free liquid candy treat. One piece of advice before drinking is to add a bit of sugar to round out the sourness.
I also must mention the mixture of ingredients after brewing. It was quite astonishing. I was looking at whole chamomile heads, plump half-cherries, cranberries, and other fairly large bits and pieces.
In my opinion, this was a very gourmet tea. It is the best fruit herbal I've ever had and I recommend it to anyone who has a hankering for a slightly sour fruity tisane. It was a perfect late night indulgence!
