teaguys-maple-sugar.jpgI’m not usually a maple sugar lover but the scent of this tea may convert me. Even after a huge meal, the scent of maple sugar tea brewing has the same effect of watching Food Network shows for a few hours. I want sugary deliciousness right now. The ingredients list black tea, maple brittle, cocoa nibs, natural flavors, and pink peppercorn. The tea is mostly smaller broken bits with pieces of what I’m guessing is the maple brittle. While the scent is spectacular, the tea is so light in body and flavor; I can barely taste anything besides a very slight sweetness and spice. Granted, the aroma is so strong, it would be hard to balance the aroma with anything besides a stack of pancakes. There’s a suggestion on the tea sample to add a bit of condensed milk or milk and sugar to it. At this point, I’m so hungry I would take sugar intravenously if I could, so I hunted down a jar of condensed milk and tried again. It’s a good suggestion but the result I get is a children’s creamy maple sugar teavery sweet and creamy, with too little tea. I keep going back and forth between the tea and the condensed milk, trying to find a good balance for a few moments before I start wondering if it wouldn’t have been easier just to have some plain tea with a more substantial breakfast including maple sugar. Some things were not intended to be substituted. This is a great idea, especially for a children’s tea party, but the execution is too high maintenance for regular enjoyment.
