choice-tea.jpgTo be completely honest, I really did not have high expectations for Choice Organic’s Lychee White tea because lychee is one of those flavors that just doesn’t seem to get along with my taste buds. When I opened the single-serving packet, I instantly noticed not only the distinct lychee scent, but also an underlying scent best compared to a fruity white wine. The lychee scent was not overpowering, for which I was thankful. The sachet contained small-sized broken leaves and occasional osmanthus flowers. The tea brewed to a honey-colored liquid. When taking my first sip, the aroma wafting off the hot tea struck my nose and again I noticed that weird wine-like aroma (but maybe it’s just part of the lychee scent and I never noticed it before, or perhaps this is the contribution of the osmanthus flowers that are also in the blend?). The tea is very subtle on flavor, and the lychee flavor barely mingled with my taste buds. This tea is doubly delicate, in both the white tea base and the fruit flavor. I noticed the slightest funky aftertaste, again that white wine-like flavor that, honestly, I could have done without. Given my past opinions of lychee, I considered the subtle lychee flavor as a plus, but if you are a big fan of lychee then Choice Organic’s Lychee White tea may leave you a bit disappointed. The tea packet advises sweetening with honey or sugar if desired, but for me the white tea and subtle fruity flavor were fine as is. This tea recieved a rating of 7 out of 10 because I enjoyed it more than I expected I would, but I think that lychee lovers will have to look elsewhere for a stronger lychee-flavored tea.
