"In all, this tea was really flavorful and appealing, however my mind could not accept that this was an oolong tea. While Tankha may be oolong by definition of how it was processed, the flavor, to me, is entirely that of a Darjeeling black tea."

The Simple Leaf's Tankha is an Indian oolong, but I must admit that as I began my sampling without this knowledge, I was convinced it was a standard Darjeeling black tea. The dried leaves, which were quite large and crunchy, had a distinct flowery-muscatel aroma often associated with a Darjeeling tea. The brewed tea has an interesting flavor profile, offering floral notes and just a hint of fruity sweetness. Although the Simple Leaf website describes this tea as medium-bodied, I would actually consider this to be full-bodied tea with a flavor that lingers on the tongue. In all, this tea was really flavorful and appealing, however my mind could not accept that this was an oolong tea. While Tankha may be oolong by definition of how it was processed, the flavor, to me, is entirely that of a Darjeeling black tea. If you are looking for a fresh-tasting (and very affordable!) tea, then I highly suggest you give Tankha a try. However, if it is a traditional oolong flavor you are looking for, you may end up being disappointed (or perhaps pleasantly surprised) by Tankha, because it is not at all comparable to the more familiar Chinese or Taiwanese oolongs.

I had the same impression. It didn’t really taste like an Oolong, still too dark. And it had the over all impression of an Indian-style tea.
My Rating:

6/10
