Its OK"Simply put, this tea was very weak. My first cup was akin to drinking water with just a splash of tea, and after numerous sips, I questioned if some prankster had pulled the old switcheroo and exchanged my travel mug of tea with one filled with water."

homoadola.jpgWhen it comes to standard, unadulterated black tea, I can almost always rely on a good cup of Ceylon to make my day. In fact, out of all of the varieties and origins of standard black tea, I would say that Ceylon is my top choice. So of course, I was excited to try a Ceylon tea from Plucker's Pick a tea vendor that was previously unknown to me. Plucker's Pick specializes in single-estate Ceylon teas, with each estate offering a different variation on the tea. The Homadola estate, a low-altitude estate in southwest Sri Lanka, offers flowery broken orange pekoe (FBOP) tea. The Plucker's Pick website describes this tea as "A fresh, sweet tea with a light aroma. This low-grown tea brews to a golden shade with hints of orange. A mild and mellow flavor". Well, I can certainly agree with their description: light, mild, and mellow are all perfectly suitable to describe this tea. As described by Plucker's Pick, these characteristics pose as positive attributes, but in my opinion, these are just nice ways of saying that the tea lacks flavor. Simply put, this tea was very weak. My first cup was akin to drinking water with just a splash of tea, and after numerous sips, I questioned if some prankster had pulled the old switcheroo and exchanged my travel mug of tea with one filled with water. Not wanting to be hasty in my review, I tried making a new pot, this time brewing twice as many leaves and steeping for a minute longer. The taste (or lack thereof) of the tea did not change much; the aroma was just about undetectable and the tea still lacked any substantial flavor. The four customer reviews available on the Plucker's Pick website generally indicate that those that have purchased this tea have been pleased with the product. I have to disagree with these reviews and express my disappointment in this tea. I don't claim to be a tea expert, but I do know that I have had several other Ceylon teas that offer a better balanced cup with nice floral and fruity flavors. While this tea did have a natural sweetness, the watered-down taste prevented me from really enjoying this. I have to say that I don't think I will be recommending this one, as I feel strongly that there are better Ceylon teas available.
