Summit Tea was a new vendor to me, so I was anxious to brew up a cup of Summit Sunset and put it to the relaxation test. According to the Summit Tea website, this herbal blend includes "A mix of chamomile, rosehips, raspberry leaf, peppermint, spearmint, strawberry leaf, vanilla, passion flower, red clover, star anise, wild cherry bark, damiana, lemon peel, wintergreen and lavender." Visually, this tea greatly resembles another herbal that I recently reviewed and I briefly thought they might actually be two separate versions of the same tea. Upon reviewing the ingredients for both, I found that Summit Sunset actually includes a much more vast selection of herbs than the other. With so many ingredients, I wasn't sure that I would be able to detect the specific flavors. I needn't have worried as spearmint is absolutely the leader in both the aroma and taste. The spearmint lingers in the aftertaste as well, leaving a clean freshness behind. In trying to distinguish the other flavors, chamomile is next in line. The lavender is most apparent in the aroma as the tea cools a bit and adds to the overall calming effect. Half way through my cup I begin to notice that the stresses of the day are beginning to melt away and my mind was beginning to wander. This was a pleasant evening brew that I can see myself reaching for again. I had expected the peppermint to dominate the blend so the strength of the spearmint was actually a nice surprise. I would easily recommend Summit Sunset to fans of chamomile blends and especially to those with an appreciation of spearmint.
