Not Great"Every one of the Dragon Pearl teas I've had was overpowered and borderline undrinkable. Which is entirely miserable as their the only brand on the market with packaging a man can leave on his coffee table and not get a snicker from every date he brings home."

dragon-pearl-jasmine.jpgI try to be fair with these things. Its not at all an act of kindness or honor, simply enlightened self interest. Overly bad reviews discourage vendors from sending free tea, overly good reviews make me seem like grinning imbecile, nobody takes me seriously, and also no free tea. I like tea, I'm cheap, so I'm fair. I can say, in utter fairness, that I couldn't find much to like about Dragon-Pearl's Jasmine Dragon Pearl, and find is the correct word in every sense. I tried this tea with just a few pearls, I tried dozens, I tried it hot and iced, I increased and decreased the steep times, I said prayers to dark Teaist gods, but still no luck.

Flower scented teas are usually a lock with me, as I'm self deluded enough to consider myself a traditional romantic. I've found pretty much everything in the flower-tea spectrum at least tolerable till now. Jasmine is a delicate and sweet flavor that compliments its own aroma, and can add immediate emotional impact to an evening. Jasmine is a delicate and fragile flavor though, sometimes its little more than a whisper, sometimes a chorus, in this case it was a whisper, played by a swat team audio assault vehicle, blasted at 5000db. It was less a gentile reminder of the loves that have and will be, and more a mad chimpanzee let loose in the tea-garden.

This is all a great shame as I really like the Dragon Pearl branding, but so far I can't stand the Dragon Pearl brand. Every one of the Dragon Pearl teas I've had was overpowered and borderline undrinkable. Which is entirely miserable as their the only brand on the market with packaging a man can leave on his coffee table and not get a snicker from every date he brings home. Their black containers, and snazzy dragon graphics, are less Lady Chatterley, and alot more Bruce Lee. If there is some secret to brewing their Fujian teas I'd love to hear it, because as stated, I'd like to like it.

To get something drinkable from these little pebbles the only key seems to be short steep times, warm water, and few pearls. With that combination you get something approaching a mild dragonwell with a slight jasmine twinge. Still, there are many better teas you can find for the price so I really don't see the point of the effort. Purchase their tea once for the snazzy packaging, then refill it with something you like.

  1. Dave Dahl Says:

Troy, Dragon Pearl Tea is grown in ideal mountain conditions for potency as well as purity. What this means is that, if you’re used to using a certain amount, it will almost certainly require only half as much Dragon Pearl as other brands. It’s also die to the fact that it’s extremely fresh, packed at the farms. Too bad tea loses points in your reviews for being too strong… try using less.

(BTW, Dragon Pearl Tea’s jasmine pearls, which constantly win awards, have NEVER gotten a low rating by any expert.)

    My Rating: 10/10

Yeah Troy, if its too strong put less in you dummy. Too much salt = too salty, too much sugar = too sweet, too much tea = put less in you duummy!
