It's fun to discover a new brand of tea, especially when it offers something new and unexpected. With this tea, Jumbolink International's Gold Green Tea, the unexpected quality is the leaf itself. The dry leaf is fragrant and beautifully rolled. The aroma is sweet and floral.The Jumbolink International website offers some information about the plantation ...œ that it is in the high mountains of Taiwan on Shanlinxi. This sample was entirely whole, unbroken leaf and felt very fresh and carefully finished in the processing.
The tea liquor itself was very pleasant and sweet, a yellowish green color with nice clarity. It could best be described as an oolong style flavor even though the company's literature makes a distinction between this and their other oolongs. I inquired by email and was told that this is only 10% oxidized. Hence, the name Green Gold was chosen. And I would agree that the name is an accurate description of the flavor and color presentation of this tea.
It produces several satisfying infusions. And this takes me back to the most surprising feature of this tea.
When the leaf is fully hydrated, the leaves are enormous and there is a large section of stem to which they are attached. I shared my pot with two tea-loving friends who were as amazed as I in the display of this leaf. And this leads me to make a recommendation about one way to use this tea; use it as a demonstration. You can measure out the small amount of tea needed to brew a pot for several people and then show the transformation, “the agony of the leaf†to your newbie friends. It is amazing and fun.
